About Me

Cynthia Vermillion began her first term on Hilliard City Council in January 2020.

She believes effective local government agencies must take steps to involve community residents and seek their ideas and input. She feels bold steps are often necessary for the betterment of a community.

Cynthia is a first-generation American who was raised in San Diego, California by parents who instilled in her the importance of hard work. Her father started a small wrought-iron furniture manufacturing plant in Tijuana, Mexico, while her mother stayed home to take care of her and her three older siblings. Cynthia went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunications and Film from San Diego State University.

In 2004, Cynthia, her husband, and four children – Rebekah, Sarah, Christian and Madeline – relocated to Hilliard, where she quickly became involved in the school community.

In 2014, she and her husband became involved with a group that fed the homeless of Columbus every week. In 2015, they were asked to lead this activity, which they did on a bi-weekly basis for almost 2-1/2 years, serving up homemade meals and gathering donations of blankets, clothing, and other supplies. She believes this service has been one of the most rewarding and eye-opening experiences of her life.

Cynthia currently serves as Vice Chair of Progress Hilliard, a local progressive group, and recently stepped down as Vice President of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) Columbus, serving in this capacity for the past 5 years. Cynthia is Vice President of the Hilliard Arts Council Board, where she looks forward to helping the arts in Hilliard flourish. She is also a member of the Hilliard Historical Society where she volunteers occasionally as a docent. Cynthia is a strong advocate on council for the Historical Society’s needs as it is an integral part of the Hilliard community. Cynthia also finds time to volunteer monthly for Meals on Wheels. She works for Coldwell Banker Realty as a licensed real estate agent and has been a member of the Columbus Board of Realtors since 2015.
